Establishing broadband across our Nation is crucial, and many believe it is a foundation for economic growth, job creation, global competitiveness and a better way of life. Additionally, the same folks would argue that broadband will change how we educate children, deliver health care, manage energy, ensure public safety, engage government, and access, organize and disseminate knowledge. On April 2, 2010, Josh Silver published an article entitled, “Google Gets in Bed with Verizon, Adopts Failed 'Less Government' Rhetoric,” that qualifies as a must-read. In what is truly a relevant article for all Americans, Silver summarizes the FCC’s plan to bring broadband to all citizens and analyzes (& subsequently dismisses) what he sees as a hypocritical stance taken by two titans of corporate industry – our Government should have as little of a role as possible.
Take a few minutes to read the piece, (link below), and take note of its tone. The Op-Ed embodies the main issue our Country is facing today – how much (government) is too much (government)? And, Mr. Silver proves that this critical question doesn’t only apply to healthcare or student loans, but rather, it’s a question that the current Administration forces us to ask in what seems to be every aspect of our daily lives.
