The election of Republican Scott Brown to the Massachusetts U.S. Senate seat formerly occupied by the late Democrat, Sen. Edward Kennedy, is sending a monumental message to the Obama administration in particular, and Washington, D.C. in general. The "AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN!" it screams. This message is not 2,000 pages long and is not written in legalease. The issue going forward of interpreting this monumental message is simple. At most it requires a bit of language and cultural expertise, even though it doesn't involve a foreign language per se.
The primary message to the Obama administration is a simple one: the American populace does not want Obamacare nor any other gabillion dollar boondoggles for the insurance or pharmaceutical industries, nor any other special interest group, crammed down their throats by government mandate and at taxpayer expense. Americans are worn out from bailouts. And since Americans were not given a voice in the Obamacare process, they made their voices heard at the ballot box. And they said, "Amen," all together this past Sunday for the blessing of stopping this ill-conceived legislation. The proposed legislation for healthcare "reform" is but another bailout and a bastardization of the original humanitarian premise of providing healthcare for all Americans. Average Americans may not have all the education and experience needed to understand all the special interests lobbying that went into this ill-conceived 2,000 monster of a bill, but they sure know when something looks and smells rotten, they are certainly not going to swallow it hook, line and sinker. No longer will Americans be the puppets of lobbying corporate America, or disregarding Washington. The sheeps clothes have been shed, the wolves have been exposed, and Americans are taking back the henhouse.
Americans have awakened and they do not want government or large corporations running their lives, which has become increasingly the case under not just the Obama administration, but the GW Bush administration as well. Americans have fewer choices and less privacy in many aspects of their lives thanks not only to Washington, but to corporate America and Washington's failure to regulate industry properly. Last weeks' Supreme Court decision all but legalized the corporate corruption of campaigns by saying that hindering a company's ability to contribute to a candidate's campaign violates their right to free speech. Gee, and you thought that the word "free" in free speech did not involve money? Think again. The pay to play culture in Washington was just endorsed last week by our U.S. Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision. Candidates can legally accept campaign funds from corporations and unions. Funds may be used as well for political advertising without limits by these groups. Watch out for Big Pharma, Big Insurance, Oil companies, Lobbyists for Medical organizations and others ruling the airwaves before each election purporting to be sorting through the candidates' platforms for you. They will tell you in 15-60 seconds repeatedly throughout your days what is best for America. They will be buying airtime to promote their own special interests, not yours. Unlike with Nascar drivers who wear their corporate sponsors on their uniforms and their car paint, making it easy to identify who "owns" them, candidates who accept money from corporate sponsors don blue or grey suits, masking their corporate sponsors. This is why it is more important than ever to not believe anything in a campaign ad, but to know a candidate. Ads are merely a way to proliferate the position of the institution who buys them, not to educate the voter.
The second part of the Brown election message that the people of Massachusetts have sent is that they want the fundamental underlying disease called "business as usual in Washington," cured. And, if the President, Senators and Congressmen don't get the message loud and clear now, the Independent voters will be ruling this nation's electorate from the Center henceforth, and they will vote you out. Right now on the table, there is an open invitation to elected officials to come to the Center and solve problems of importance to the American people. If you do not work to solve America's problems without lining the pockets of special interest and indebting this nation up past its eyeballs, you will be voted out. Even if you occupied a chair for 46 years to the point where you thought your party "owned" it, you WILL be voted out. It will be done in special elections for governor, senator, congressmen, 2010, and 2012. These seats belong to the American people, not those whose occupy them.
The Massachusetts voting message is not solely directed at Democrats, but rather incumbents from both parties. Incumbents beware, Americans want sensible, thought out, cost effective, creatively driven legislation to solve America's problems and we have sent you to Washington to do that. Focus on the doable. Export illegal immigrants. Secure all United States borders & methods of entry. Make sensible, cost-effective healthcare reform. Reign in corporate oligopolies by saying no to mergers that jeopardize Americans' choices. Reinstitute the Glass-Steagal act to separate the business of insurance companies, commerical banks, and investment banks to minimize risk to multiple industries and taxpayers. Regulate usuary levels on credit card interest rates, taxday loans and payday loans. Stop bailouts. Take care of the disabled and veterans and give them real estate & income tax relief. Protect housing opportunities for the disabled and veterans. Ban texting and handheld cell phone while driving. Reform Lobbying and sit down with your constituents and hear their concerns for free instead. Ban teens's use of electronic devices while driving except GPS-they were already the most deadly group on the road prior to these toys. Focus on job creation via small business assistance. Address job insecurity and unemployment. Secure retirement funds from risky investments to protect American's golden years. Formulate sensible trade and foreign policies. Stop policing the world-we can't afford it. Form alliances. Ban Genetically Modified foods until and unless they are shown to NOT be harmful to human & animal life. Clean up our food supply from disease, pesticides and harmful fertilizers. Play in the sandbox well with our allies. Institute term limits for Congress and the Senate, or they will be set at the ballot box. Join Social Security and Medicare as your retirement an healthcare providers. If you can't do the job as voters see it, you will NOT be invited back after the next election. Many Americans feel that only a clean sweep of the House, Senate and Presidency will cure the diseased state of Washington politics.
The Republican party of "NO" has a lot of work to do to provide an alternative that is more centrist and substantive. Rejecting others' ideas and providing no alternative is not a platform. Any Republican living in the land of NO is a relic not less dated than the dinosaur at this point. American centrists do not want Republicans in their bedrooms directing their individual liberties, they want overall social norms for justice and civilization. Americans have seen the evil and greed in their elected officials in both parties from the far right in the Bush regime to the far left in the Obama regime, both the Republican and Democrat, and they are now demanding that the pendulum be stopped in the middle. While many voters may be registered with one party or another, it's merely to have the right to vote in primaries.
The referendum on Obamacare was lost by the administration, and now that the American people have taken back their Senate seat in Massachusetts and claimed it as their own, they are willing to do that throughout the United States. The people of New Jersey, Virginia, and Massachusetts have spoken out on behalf of the American people. Many Americans are crying to reclaim 534 more seats in the senate and congress, one from the Presidency, as well as 48 more from governors. Incumbents beware!
