Name: Ann Dolin, M.Ed. Location: Oakton, VA Interests: Tutoring students, providing parent outreach/workshops, traveling, reading, and working out. Causes: I am passionate about promoting academic achievement among students, as well as helping parents improve their child’s learning processes in a way that reduces stress and maximizes efficiency efficacy. I am committed to serving the needs of children with learning disabilities, AD/HD, and those from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. I work with various groups on a local and national scale to advocate an even playing field for all. By partnering with schools, I help introduce to parents and educators a greater emphasis on teaching children study skills outside of the traditional classroom curriculum. There is such an emphasis on standardized testing that kids often miss out on being taught the ability to think critically, study effectively, manage their time, and organize their materials. Background: Ann is a former Fairfax County, VA public school teacher with over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience. Ann's undergraduate degree is in Child Psychology with Teacher Certification for grades 1-8. In 1992, she received her M.Ed. in Special Education from Boston College and now resides in Northern Virginia with her husband and two children. After leaving FCPS in 1998, Ann founded Educational Connections, Inc. as its only employee with the goal of providing individualized one-to-one instruction based on each student's learning style. Today, her company employs over 130 tutors, serves the entire metropolitan D.C. area, and has worked with over 3,000 students. Ann is a recognized expert in education and learning disability issues. She is a board member of the International Dyslexia Association and CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder) and is the author of the upcoming book Homework Made Simple: Tips, Tools and Solutions for Hassle-Free Homework.
