Name: Deputy Secretary Tevi D. Troy Location: Kemp Mill, Maryland Interests: American History, the Presidency, Politics, Health Care, and Baseball Causes: Improving technology, especially in health care; protecting our nation against terror; promoting freedom Background: Tevi Troy is a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute, and a writer and consultant on health care and public policy issues. From 2007 to 2009, he was the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. As chief operating officer of the largest civilian department in the federal government, he oversaw all operations, including Medicare, Medicaid, public health, medical research, food and drug safety, welfare, bio-terror defense, and emergency preparedness. Troy has served in multiple high-level White House positions, including Deputy Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy, where he advised the President and top level administration officials on health care, labor, education, transportation, immigration, crime, and welfare. Troy has also served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy at the Department of Labor, Policy Director for Senator John Ashcroft, and Senior Domestic Policy Adviser for the House Policy Committee. Troy has a B.S. from Cornell and an M.A and Ph.D. from the University of Texas. He is the author of Intellectuals and the American Presidency: Philosophers, Jesters, or Technicians. He and his wife Kami have four young children.
